Phillip Investor Centre partners Tay Paper Recycling to launch Red Packet Recycling Programme

The Red Packet Recycling Programme is part of PhillipCapital’s sustainability initiatives

SINGAPORE, 25 January 2023 – An estimated 16,300 trees are cut down just to make red packets in Hong Kong every year. In Singapore, tonnes of red packets are discarded after every Chinese New Year. To help celebrate Chinese New Year in a more environmentally friendly way, Phillip Investor Centre (PIC) is partnering with local waste paper recycling leader Tay Paper Recycling to launch a Red Packet Recycling Programme.

Ms Phyllis Goh, Head of PIC, said: “As part of our environmental sustainability initiative, we are offering avenues for anyone to recycle their used or unused red packets. This provides convenience to the public as they can drop by any of our investor centres located in their neighbourhood.”

With this service, those who are keen to recycle their red packets will be able to drop them off in the recycling bins located at all the 10 PIC branches across Singapore (see Annex A). These recycling bins will be accessible during the operating hours of the respective branches.

Tay Paper Recycling has more than 32 years of local experience in the paper recycling industry, offering an end-to-end solution including collection, sorting, pulping and baling. As such, the public and PhillipCapital clients can rest assured that their disposed red packets will be recycled to the highest standard of sustainability with full accountability.

A Tay Paper Recycling spokesperson said: “Instead of letting red packets end up in landfills when discarded in a conventional way, placing them in these proper recycling bins means the red packets will be recycled properly.”

PIC offers PhillipCapital’s clients face-to-face professional assistance to create a customised portfolio with a mix of asset classes to grow wealth. The Red Packet Recycling Programme in 2023 is just one part of PhillipCapital’s ESG initiatives, which demonstrates our commitment to environmental stewardship, in promoting a more sustainable lifestyle to our partners and clients. With this new service, clients can work towards adopting more eco-conscious practices as they seek financial guidance from PhillipCapital’s trusted financial advisory consultants.

Mr Stephen Beng, PhillipCapital’s Head of ESG, said: “Our approach to sustainable investing includes reinforcing investments that contribute to a circular economy in a nature-positive and socially-just way. This initiative helps to strengthen PhillipCapital’s culture of environmental stewardship.”

PhillipCapital is committed to our fiduciary, societal, and environmental responsibilities, in the race to a more sustainable economy. Through the PhillipCapital’s ESG framework, sustainable investing at PCM provides longer-term investment rewards that also benefit people and planet.
